My Neurologist Knows Best?

Today I tried something different with my medication. I messed around with my times again. I may have taken too much of something, I was dyskinesic as hell for a few hours. I don’t know what it was, I’m not particularly that bothered to be honest. All I do know is that I didn’t have awful drop off, and I can cope with the twitching more easily than I can cope with feeling crippled like an old, aching woman.

My Body, My Rules

When I spoke to Emma later she reminded me that drastic changes in meds aren’t encouraged. You’re supposed to ‘ease into it’ as it were. But what can I say? I’m a rebel, I don’t care, and it’s supposed to be taken first thing anyhow, I just… Haven’t been taking my meds as prescribed. Why not? Well, why not indeed I might say. It’s my body, I’m dealing with this thing in the best way I know how, and clearly taking the pill I’m supposed to take first thing late in the morning as a ‘top up’ isn’ t working any more. I don’t know, perhaps it’s almost like the doctors and consultant neurologists might actually know a thing or two about medication. They may even (whisper it) know better than I. Say it quietly… I may have been wrong once or twice. Maybe.

Clever People

Having said that I must admit I trust my neurologist heaps, he’s an incredibly intelligent man, and I always try to make him smile. Even better, laugh. He has a very serious job, and probably spends quite a lot of it imparting unpleasant news to people. I know if I told him about this he’d smile wryly and tell me to take my meds at the times he’s prescribed, they might actually work properly then.

Go Med-Free!

Despite this there are some people out there that seem to think that they know better. I’m forever reading messages from people on social media decrying the medical profession and encouraging people to stop taking their much-needed medication. The oft-thrown message ‘do your reasearch’ which usually resullts in a laughably tiny non-peer-reviewed-non-scientific study of one person personally known to the orginial poster, who takes some kind of natural product and is remarkably cured! But doctors don’t want you to know about this, honest.

Civilisation?

Actually, doctors DO want you to know about how to be healthy. I’ve never come across any country large or small that has enough medical professionals that can help their people. This myth that ‘doctors all want you to fund Big Pharma’ comes from the country that sees medicine as just another way to take money off people, the USA. A civilised society supports and assists its people. This is not communism, or even extreme ‘lefty nonsense,’ it’s simply the mark of responsible, civilised people. I digress, I wasn’t going to get political. But I do get fired up over a society that claims to be the leaders of the free world, who then allow children to die from treatable issues becuase their parents don’t have private medical insurance. Uncomfortable, but true. If you don’t beleive me, go check ‘givealittle’ and ‘gofundme’ sites.

Morale Boost

I digressed again, but I’m good at that. I’m good at a lot of things. regularly posting on my blog is not one of them. I am however, great at speaking about how to be positive and move forward with your life / business / general things despite some pretty horrid things trying to get in the way. If you would like to hear my cracking speech on surviving Parkinson’s, or simply boost the morale of your team, contact me via the form (button below or check out the menu) and we can sort something out. I look forward to hearing from you.

Doctors, huh? Perhaps I should pay more attention after all. I salute you all and the cleverness of the entire medical profession. Thank you.

Post-Script…

(And let’s not get political, but in New Zealand, please vote out the incompetents currently running the country into the ground. Boot out Luxon and his cronies. Thanks. )
